Milky Bread

Here's a simple and delicious Milky Bread Recipe that will give you soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet

Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour (420g)
  • 1 cup warm milk (240ml)
  • ¼ cup sugar (50g)
  • 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (7g or 1 packet)
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (56g)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup milk powder (optional, for extra richness)
  • Extra milk or egg wash (for brushing on top)

Method:

1. Activate the Yeast:

  • In a small bowl, mix the warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy. This step activates the yeast.

2. Prepare the Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and milk powder (if using).
  • Add the activated yeast mixture, softened butter, and egg. Mix well until the dough comes together.

3. Knead the Dough:

  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. If you have a stand mixer with a dough hook, you can knead the dough using it for about 7-8 minutes.

4. First Rise:

  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

5. Shape the Dough:

  • After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into equal portions (if you want to make small buns) or shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan or shape as desired on a baking tray.

6. Second Rise:

  • Cover the shaped dough and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes until it’s puffy.

7. Brush and Bake:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Brush the top of the bread with milk or egg wash for a shiny, golden crust.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.

8. Cool and Serve:

  • Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy your milky bread with butter, jam, or as part of a sandwich!
